A: It says in the newspaper that exports are up this quarter.

B: What about the exchange rate?

A: It looks like the won is strong against the dollar.

B: I thought so. An increase in exports usually coincides with a weak dollar.

A: 뉴스에 나왔는데 이번 분기에 수출이 증진됐대.

B: 환율은 어때?

A: 원화가 달러화에 강세라는 것 같아.

B: 내 생각도 그래. 수출 증가는 보통 달러 약세와 동시에 일어나니까.

 

coincide는 동사로서 ‘동시에 일어나다’, ‘일치하다’, ‘만나다’, ‘같은 공간을 차지하다’ 등의 사전적 의미를 가지고 있다. 어원은 ‘떨어지다’, ‘일어나다’라는 뜻을 가진 라틴어 cadere에서 유래했다.
