A: I don’t know why military service is mandatory.

B: It’s because we need to keep a standing army to deter the North.

A: But the pay in the army is chicken feed. B: Your incentive should be patriotism, not money.

A: 왜 군 복무가 의무인지 모르겠어.

B: 왜냐하면 북한을 저지하기 위해 군대를 유지할 필요가 있기 때문이야.

A: 하지만 군대의 봉급은 너무 박봉이야. B: 애국심으로 해야지. 돈이 아니라.

 

incentive : ‘(어떤 행동을 장려하기 위한) 장려[우대]책’이란 사전적 의미를 갖고 있다. 유사한 표현으로는 inducement, motive, motivation 등이 있다.
