A: Oh, Mom! Your hair in this old picture looks very strange. Was that the fashion back then?
B: (Laughing) Yes, I spent a lot of time getting my hair to look like that. 
Big hair was the trend in the 1980’s.
A: 오, 엄마! 옛 사진속의 엄마 머리모양이 너무 이상해요. 그때는 그게 유행이었어요?
B: (웃으며) 맞아, 난 내 머리를 그렇게 만드는데 시간을 많이 썼어. 
큰 머리는 1980년대에 유행이었단다. 

trend : 사전적 의미는 ‘동향’, ‘추세’다. 어원적 의미는 ‘turn in a specific direction’, 즉 ‘일정한, 특정한 방향으로 향하다’라고 볼 수 있다. 유사한 단어로는 ‘inclination’, ‘fad’, ‘vogue’, ‘fashion’ 등이 있다.
