A: Single mothers often feel that they are stigmatized by society.

B: I understand! Also, according to research, a substantial minority of very poor mothers believes that churches stigmatize them so they don‘t want to participate in formal religion.

A: 싱글 어머니들은 종종 그들이 사회적으로 부당한 대우를 받고 있다고 느낍니다.

B: 이해 갑니다. 조사에 따르면, 매우 가난한 어머니들은 교회들이 그들을 몰아세우고 공식적인 종교에 참여하는 걸 원치 않는다는 사실을 믿고 있습니다.

Stigmatize 는 낙인을 찍고 오명 또는 치욕스럽게 만들고 특히 ‘중상모략하다’ 라는 말이 있는데 가장 중요한 뜻은 인정해 주지 않는 것이다. 나쁜놈이다, 매국노이다, 거짓말쟁이라고 낙인찍어버리는 걸 바로 stigmatize 라고 합니다.
