A: The problem with John is that he can’t see the forest for the trees.

B: You know, I think you hit the nail on the head.

A: 존의 문제는 나무만 보고 숲을 보지 못하는 거야.

B: 맞아, 네가 정곡을 찌른 것 같아.

Can’t see the forest for the trees: 어떤 것의 세부적인 사항에만 집중한 나머지 큰 그림을 보지 못하는 사람을 설명한다. Hit the nail on the head: 망치로 못을 치는 모습에서 따온 것이다. 못의 머리를 내려치는 것이 정확한 방법이다. 그러므로 이 표현은 ‘You are exactly right(네 말이 정확하게 맞다)’라는 뜻이다.
